Our Mission & Vision
Covenant City Church exists to glorify God in joyful obedience to Christ through the power of the Spirit for Gospel ministry.
Our Distinctives
Preaching and Teaching of the Word
Covenant City Church is committed to the inerrancy, infallibility, and divine inspiration of Scripture (cf. 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21). The Word of God is the primary vehicle to which the Spirit conforms the church into the image of the Son (cf. Jn. 17:17; Rom. 8:28; Eph. 4:22-23; Col. 3:10). Therefore, we believe, amid the gathering of the saints, that the most fundamental means in preaching/teaching the Word is to exposit the text. Hence, we believe in the unitary structure of redemptive history, which is embodied in the Old and New Testament, or the 66 books of the canonical Scriptures.
Making Disciples
Covenant City Church prioritizes the biblical mandate to make disciples of all nations (e.g., Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). All programs, events, and/or efforts will be driven to assist people toward joyful obedience to Christ Jesus. We believe in seven central components to disciple-making: (1) Gospel centrality, (2) biblical doctrine, (3) genuine personal relationships, (4) prayer, (5) modeling Christ-centeredness, (6) perpetual discipleship, and (7) covenantal community. The life of the church is inherently designed for discipleship. From the preaching of God’s Word to the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Table to the life of the covenant community, these unique facets coalesce into one unified whole in order to produce a disciple-making society. Everything that is done within the covenant community is to drive them toward greater affection and deeper knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Equipping the Saints
Covenant City Church is devoted to the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry (e.g., Eph. 4:12). We conclude that all believers are called to serve the church and her mission faithfully (e.g., 1 Pet. 2:4-5). Pastors have the God-given mandate to equip, prepare, and build the saints. The church, collectively, is called to preach the Good News. The people of God, the new temple of priest/kings (e.g., Jn. 2:19-22; 1 Cor. 3:16-17; Eph. 2:20-22; 1 Pet. 2:9-10), are mandated to steward the Gospel and administer God’s presence through the proclamation of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
Walking Together as the Saints
Covenant City Church is committed to living missionally together for the sake of the glory of God (e.g., Matt. 5:14-16; Acts 2:42-44; 4:1-3; 1 Pet. 3:15-16). Together-ness is rooted in our covenantal commitment, first and foremost, to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (e.g., Matt. 16:13-20) and, consequently, one to another (e.g., 1 Cor. 12:12-27). Membership embodies, then, a partnership and devotion to the mission of the kingdom in every facet of the believer’s life. In addition, church discipline becomes a necessary conduit for faithful and grace-filled accountability (e.g., 1 Cor. 5:1-13; 2 Cor. 2:4-16). Three layers of church discipline: (1) member-to-member accountability, (2) elder-to-member accountability, and (3) community-to-member accountability (e.g., Matt. 18:15-17). A plurality of pastor/elder functions, in turn, as divine oversight for the people of God (e.g., Acts 14:23; 16:4; 20:17; 21:18; Titus 1:5; Jas. 5:14). The pastors/elders govern and oversee the covenant members for the sake of spiritual vitality and Gospel advancement (e.g., Heb. 13:17). These interconnected relations serve to help God’s people walk together in faithfulness to the advancement of the kingdom of God.
Multiplication
Covenant City Church is committed to planting Gospel-centered churches for the glory of God. We believe that the church is the primary vehicle, established by Christ, to advance the Gospel forward to the ends of the earth (e.g., Acts 1:8; 1 Tim. 3:15). Thus, we are committed to training qualified men to pastor and lead as elders in the multi-varied ways of biblical eldership (e.g., 2 Tim. 2:1-2; Titus 1:5-9). We are also committed to training and sending missionaries cross-culturally for the planting of churches in the advancement of the Good News. We are dedicated to seeing women flourish in their God-given spheres of influence for the good of the church (e.g., Titus 2:3-5). Covenant City Church desires to work tirelessly in seeing the Gospel advance through the means of biblical faithfulness.
